Campaign description

The Tempest Dynasty[a] is a collection of desperate Eastern European and Asian nations that formed in the aftermath of the Third World War. Naming themselves after the Tempest, the Dynasty views the plant as their birthright and restitution for what has been lost. It was founded by Domovoy Molchalin who was a colonel during the Third World War and now serves as figurehead. His son Aleks Molchalin has assumed leadership of the Dynasty in his stead.[1] By 1997, the Dynasty holds a large amount of the Tempest sites in their territories and oppose the occupation of the Global Defense Forces to control them.

The Dynasty are nationalistic, seeking to preserve their cultures and sovereignty in the face of GDF expansionism. In honour and remembrance of those lost during the Third World War, many Dynasty civilians and soldiers choose to wear necklaces with vials containing a small amount of Tempest.[2]

In Tempest Rising, the Tempest Dynasty is one of the three playable factions.

Technology level

Though not as technologically advanced, the Dynasty's industrial strength and conventional weaponry enhanced with the Tempest rivals the GDF. Their Corps of Machinists derive many designs from technologies used during and around the Third World War. The Dynasty view the Tempest as more than just a resource and are clearly experimental with its applications on the battlefield.

  • Artificial intelligence: Dynasty commanders are supported by Pythia, a computerized adjutant that serves as the battlefield advisor.
  • Incendiary weapons: When the Tempest initially emerged, the nations that would form the Tempest Dynasty made heavy use of flamethrowers to limit the spread of the vines. Decades later, these flamethrowers would then become the mainstay weapons of the Ignitor Corps and their Pillager tanks.
  • Mobile Tempest refining: Whereas the GDF still utilizes stationary refineries, the Dynasty's mobile rig platforms can refine fluid harvested from Tempest pods while on the move. As of 1997, around 200 rigs are deployed across Eastern Europe.[3]
  • Voltaic weapons: Research efforts into the Tempest vines have resulted in the creation of a charged particle beam weapon which has been nicknamed the "Voltaic Cannon". Equipped by Demolitionists and Voltaic Tanks, Voltaic weapons are devastating against vehicles and even causes runaway Tempest reactions on vehicles suffering from Tempest overflow effects.
  • Drill pods: Dynasty structures are deployed from the Construction Yard via tightly packed drill pods. These pods makes interference with Dynasty construction operations difficult. As opposed to Drone Pods delivered by GDF Construction Yards which create a build site which can be destroyed, the pod is assembled inside the construction yard and then deployed at the end of the build. Selection of the location is done after construction is complete, not before as with GDF.[4]

Gameplay

The Tempest Dynasty are a faction focused on overwhelming firepower and heavy use of the Tempest in their arsenal. One unique mechanic is that they can change the behavior of their power plants from their normal power production to a "distribution" mode, where the power plants will accelerate unit production and buff combat capabilities of nearby buildings[5] but it damages the buildings over time.[6]

To access higher tier units, the Dynasty must upgrade their buildings.[7] Upgraded buildings may provide an additional functionality, such as the Barracks gaining the ability to heal infantry and the Machine Shop being outfitted with a missile launcher for defense.

Plans

The Dynasty can employ one of 3 combat plans to improve certain characteristics of their units and production:

  • Logistics Plan: the Tempest Rig and its harvesters move 10% faster, and building construction time is reduced by 10%.
  • Martial Plan: all units gain increased 7% attack speed, +10% damage resistance to Rockets and Explosives, and the Tempest Dynamos ability is enabled for the Assault Gunner, Voltaic Tank, and Physicist.
  • Security Plan: unit and building cost is reduced by 5%, repair is improved by 15%, and Radar Station vision radius is improved by 30%.[8]

Each Construction Yard can enable 1 plan at a time. Additional Construction Yards can be used to enable multiple plans simultaneously, though each plan can only be enabled once (no stacking the same plan twice). Plans cost power to maintain, and each one you run costs more power than the last.[9]
