Unit
In Tempest Rising, units are the smallest task force that may be controlled by the player. A unit may represent a single footsoldier or a vehicle. Each unit has its own set of stats, abilities, and perks that determine their in-game role and best effective use on the battlefield.
Commanding units
Assuming default controls, player-controlled units are selected by left-clicking on them. Multiple units can be selected at once by clicking and dragging a rectangle selection around the units on the battlefield. Selected units can be ordered to move to a different spot on the battlefield by right-clicking on the desired location. Units can attack visible enemy targets by right-clicking on them. They can also force attack neutral and friendly targets by holding Ctrl and right-clicking on them.
Selected units can be issued the following commands:
- Move: Moves to the target location without performing other actions.
- Attack move: Moves to the selected location, stopping along the way to engage enemies in range. Only available for armed units.
- Stop: Stops all actions.
- Guard: Follows and defends the target. Only available for armed units.
- Patrol: Patrols along the indicated route.
- Hold position: Stays at the current spot and attacks enemies within range.
Units can be assigned up to 10 control groups by pressing the Ctrl key and a number (1 to 0). To select the assigned group, press the number that has been assigned to it.
Unit types
Units are classified into types, which determines their armor resistance against different attack types and how they deal with damage.
Infantry
Infantry units represent individual footsoldiers. They include all Specialists. Infantry are resilient against Rocket and Cannon attacks, but are very vulnerable to Fire and Sniper attacks.
Infantry units can garrison certain structures.
Standard infantry
Standard infantry units go prone when under sustained fire and at low health, which reduces their incoming damage but are rendered immobile. They can be crushed by most enemy vehicles.
