Captain Ed Hayes is a Comms Officer of the Global Defense Forces. Formerly an engineer from the Australian outback, Hayes takes on the role of heavy infantry armed with an anti-armor laser cannon and networking equipment for battlefield support.[1]

Background

Captain Ed Hayes is a former engineer from the Australian outback. He fills the role of heavy infantry, carrying both GDF's Networking technology and a heavy anti-vehicle laser cannon. He is sometimes called upon by Dr. Francis of the GDF science division to field test new weaponry, occasionally even hand-operating heavy weapons which are meant to be mounted on vehicles.

While GDF laser technology has improved dramatically in recent years, man-portable laser weaponry is experimental at best. Heavy and unwieldy, the laser rifle Captain Hayes carries is nonetheless an engineering marvel, capable of marking enemy signatures on friendly targeting computers, allowing both allied targeting systems and his own to benefit from enhanced accuracy and range against high-value enemy assets.

Wielding the smallest currently produced Comms uplink, Captain Hayes is able to provide battlefield coordination support in a small area. Due to the cumbersome nature of the gear, he cannot operate it while mobile.[2]

Game unit

The Comms Officer is the GDF specialist that fills the role of supporting friendly combat units. He provides the Comms Comms effect while immobile, increasing the rate of fire and move speed of nearby units.[3] The Comms Officer is armed with a laser rifle that is not only effective against armored vehicles, but also Marked Marks enemy targets and is Networked.
